The Power of Pink & Blue

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on December 15, 2009

The message for today is about ’The Power of Pink & The Power of Blue’

Ladies, how many times do you walk away from an interaction with a male (significant other) or business associate and are shaking your head or want to scream?

And Men, how many of you think women are too sensitive and ‘always want to talk’?

 Think about this . . .

Women filter everything through pink hearing aides, rose colored glasses, a pink computer, and talk through a pink megaphone.

 Guys . . .

Do you think we have different languages?

 Here’s a prime example

I say to my husband ’I need to lose 10 lbs.’

He goes to the library and sees a book that is titled HEALTHY DIET MENUS

He is thinking he is supporting my goal of being healthy — and I see red because he brings me home a diet book (even though I do want to lose 10 lbs — I don’t want him to think I need to).

And, I see a great book about communicating and strengthening relationships.  I buy it.  I mention it to my husband.  He hears ‘I’m in the dog house’ and ‘it cost me $20.’

There’s plenty examples that relate to work relationships too.

The reason I’m sharing this is because the Holidays can be stressful, and sometimes we think we’re saying one thing, but the person we’re speaking to is hearing something entirely different.

Ladies, we need to speak BLUE.  Men, you need to speak PINK.  And, when we start to get peeved, we need to think about WHY.

Most people don’t intentionally go out of their way to be jerks.

So where did I get this from — No, I didn’t pick up my PhD on the internet over the weekend after thowing the Christmas Party.

We had a visiting Pastor at Church — Emerson Eggerichs

 Check out his book:

Love and Respect (The Love She Most Desires/ The Respect He Desperately Needs) won 2 awards sin 2005.

And, while you may be raising your eyebrows about ‘love’ in workplace relationships, I’m talkinig about treating people kindly — women need NICE and need to be heard.  And YES, Respect is KEY for a man.  A man will lay down and die for honor.

 So why the PLUG?

Ask yourself when was the last time you felt robbed of power?

In closing 2009, it’s important to take stock not only of our WINS, but of what we can do better in 2010 — and NOW is the time to set the groundwork.  I believe this book can benefit ALL relationships, work, parent-child, and of course, marriage.

Check out your local library and grab a copy of LOVE & RESPECT.  You’ll never look at the colors Pink and Blue quite the same ever again!
