Hurray! Michael Schmidt Has Been Cleared!

Posted by Maureen Diaz on January 21, 2010

Did you feel the earth move a short time ago?  Perhaps you heard my scream?  My children jumped, the dog ran off, and papers fell from my hand.  Why? Because I had just read the most fantastic news: Michael Schmidt was cleared of all charges-HURRAY!

But what is all this about, you might ask?  Well for those who don’t know let me quickly explain.  Michael Schmidt had been charged with, and found guilty of, 20 counts of operating an illegal herdshare.   Michael’s saga has been going on for years.  He came to Ontario from Germany and set out to be a dairy farmer.  But in Canada, just as in the USA, Big Agriculture does not like to lose the tiny market share which goes to providers of un-processed milk.

This of course means a crackdown on small farms producing quality, nutrient-dense foods, especially dairy products.  The crackdown is clearly driven by corporate influence on the people’s government under the guise of protecting the poor, ignorant masses. But we are not ignorant, nor are we the masses (public).  We are well-informed, private citizens seeking to make wise choices for ourselves and our families.  And we are clear on one very important point:  the fundamental right of choice.  The right to choose the food we eat and whom we purchase it from, as well as the farmer’s right to conduct private business between he and his friends and neighbors.  After all, this is not some new, untried fad.  This is how things have been done through the entire course of human history!  Until now, that is, with the advent of corporations and large professional associations in modern America & Canada.

Folks, be sure of one thing:  our governments do not have our best interest at heart!  No, instead they are concerned with the business of protecting Big Business.  This is demonstrated daily in our 2 countries.  Consider the American “Health Care” bill currently under construction which will dictate “appropriate” testing and treatment for every medical situation you or I might find ourselves in, regardless of individuality. It seeks to virtually wipe out alternative medicine and natural cures and would impose criminal penalties upon doctors who stray from approved treatments, as well as penalize private citizens who refuse these same treatments.

And then there is the “Food Safety” bill also under consideration.  Its objective seems to be to eliminate all consumer choice by regulating, and penalizing, small farms and Grandma’s kitchen right out of existence. You see, if “they” control the food supply and the medical system (Oh!  Let’s not forget education…), they really control us, don’t they?  Scary, scary thought.

And of course, the United States Supreme Court decision which gives corporations the rights of individuals:  free speech.  This now allows corporations legal, unencumbered influence over our elected officials in the form of campaign contributions and more.

So Michael’s victory today was really a victory for all of us; a step in the right direction.  The judge was brave enough to stand up and put a stop to this unjust persecution of a small farmer.  And he recognized that said farmer was providing a highly valued service to a well informed private citizenry!  I’m so happy I could go hug a judge!  (Were it not for that he is oh, so far away in the cold, cold north:-)

Let’s recognize that this victory did not happen because one farmer stood up and challenged the system.  It happened because one farmer with a very large group of citizens behind him, stood up and cried foul!  These victories need to be happening over and over again all over the world, but especially here in North America.  (Sadly, much of the world seems to follow our lead in these matters.)  And these victories can only happen if you stand up and demand to be heard!

So become friends with your neighborhood sustainable farmer.  Make sure your elected officials really know you!  Speak out!  Get involved with your local Weston A Price Foundation Chapter, join the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund, hook up with your state’s NICFA group, or whatever organizations are within your range that support the local and sustainable food movement, the only true safe food system there is!  And stay tuned for more ways that you can help.

As for this moment, I think I’ll go grab my husband and kids and raise a glass of fresh, unprocessed milk to celebrate. Michael Schmidt, here’s to you!

Test to Your Health

Posted by Annette Presley on January 21, 2010

Sometimes all you need is a Little Iodine!

With the new year comes a new lease on life and generally, a new interest in getting healthy. For most that means starting the latest diet and exercise fad, but few consider their overall health. Maybe your body is lacking something it really needs.

Health tests can be useful to help you see where you need improvement. Following are tests that would benefit everyone, so ask your doctor to order them or find a lab that administers them.

1. Vitamin D test. You want this test to be around 50 – 60 ng/dl to be in the healthy range. If it is lower, you will want to take 2000 IU to 8000 IU of vitamin D. The right dose for you should be determined by your doctor. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to depression, diabetes, heart disease, Multiple Sclerosis, cancer and more, so this is a really beneficial test.

2. Iodine loading test. This one does take some time. You have to collect urine for 24 hours, but it is well worth the effort. Iodine is beneficial for the thyroid, heart and sex organs and plays a role in cholesterol metabolism. A lack of iodine has been associated with breast cancer and menstrual issues. If you can’t find this test locally, you can try http://www.hakalalabs.com. The result should be greater than 90%. It is best to take iodine under the care of a qualified physician.

The vitamin D and iodine loading tests are not routinely done, so you will most likely have to ask for them. I believe they should be given routinely because correcting vitamin D or iodine deficiencies will have a huge impact on your health.

Butter is Better ProtestPhil Ridley Stages a “Butter is Better” Protest

WAPF Chapter Leader Stages Protest, Hew and Cry from Commenters

by Phil Ridley, Weston A. Price Chapter Leader -London England

Dr. Shyan Kolvekar was reported widely calling to ban butter and Britain’s Food Standards Agency is conducting a campaign against saturated fats, even though the evidence shows that the artificial fats in margarine and vegetable oils cause heart disease, in partnership with refined sugar and white flour, which confuse the liver into producing harmful fats.

So I decided to confront the bureaucrats directly and hand out Butter is Better flyers to the hospital where Dr. Kolvekar works. The printers seem to have supported me, because I asked for 300 flyers, and they printed well over 1000. The stack was 4 inches at least and it took me 14 hours to get rid of them. I left the hospital after they issued me a retraction, distancing themselves from his comments and I then moved onto the Food Standards Agency, blitzing them with hundreds of flyers for seven whole hours.

The response was interesting. Two doctors came out early on trying to get me to move on. One called the Police, who must have chuckled at a grown man reporting somebody for handing out nutritional advice! He tried to trick me to move but could only ask me to not block the entrance. He swiftly admitted that protest is still lawful in England and crawled back into the office, tail between his legs. Later on that day, an employee told me that this doctor walks in after lunch, every day, with a glass of wine in his hand! It was particularly nice to have smiles from members of Dr. Shyan’s team. They clearly didn’t agree with him.

Most people were very receptive, some wanted more information, but there were one or two who said “ban it”. If we don’t stand up to that minority o’ thugs who desire to control others, they will rule us.

It was fun to have the canteen manager pop up and ask advice about nutrition, and one Irish chap explained how Irish used to consume lots of beef drippings, but that government bought in regulations that made it difficult and expensive to produce, so they effectively outlawed it via restrictive regulations. This would be how butter would be banned in England, and that process is currently underway.

The funniest response was from men with thick Cockney (London) accents “Theye wanna Bayn bu”er?”!!

I left after the medical director came down and provided me the retraction, shown below. They were clearly embarrassed at the attention and wanted nothing to do with it.

Butter Banning Not Their Idea, Says HospitalButter Banning Not Their Idea, Says Hospital

The Food Standards Agency was the next stop. I would hand over the flyers and say “Butter is Better”. Some would say “No it isn’t” but they again were the minority. I had one interesting conversation where a lady who studied nutrition claimed that I wasn’t qualified to debate her. She was chewing gum with aspartame in it! I explained to her about aspartame and the role of refined sugar and white flour, which made her think a bit. Maybe I planted a seed there?

Some people would smile at the novelty of somebody caring about butter! Thankfully a number of people people said that the demonizing of butter was nonsense and almost all the comments on articles online are rallying against the proposal to ban butter. Hopefully the introduction to the Weston A. Price Foundation to these people provides a counterbalance to propaganda. Hopefully Doctors and the FSA understand that the London Chapter of the Weston A Price Foundation will educate their staff next time they attempt to spread disinfo!

High-Fat Diet Cures Boy, 4, of Epilepsy

Posted by Kevin Brown on January 21, 2010

Liberation Wellness Diet Protocols in the News!

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

A 4-year-old epileptic Minnesota boy, who used to suffer more than 100 seizures a day, has been cured — thanks to an extremely high-fat diet, wcco.com reported.

Medication wasn’t even touching Max Irvine’s condition, and his parents watched hopelessly as their son’s condition worsened.

But Dr. Elaine Wirrell, a pediatric neurologist at the Mayo Clinic, suggested Max try the Ketogenic diet, which is low in carbohydrates and very high in fats. Wirrell said research hints the high-fat diet stabilizes brain cells and alters neurotransmitters.

Max’s meals consisted of butter and bacon; he was drinking Canola oil as a beverage, and to his parents’ amazement, the diet worked.

“I just remember having tears, and thinking how can I be giving my child so much fat,” said Kristine Irvine, Max’s mother.

Wirrell said she monitors Max’s cholesterol, but that kids on this diet do not typically have cholesterol or lipid problems. Today, Max is not taking any medication and he is not suffering any seizures.

Click here to read more on this story from wcco.com.

This is similar to a client we had who had a dog with epilipsy, the ancient cure is a very lo-carb (low sugar) diet. It worked like a charm. Unfortunately, the high-fat cure is demonized and expensive treatments are promoted and suffering continues in the lives of thousands! PS- Don’t Drink Canola Oil!
