More research seems to come out everyday showing a link between the health of your gut and your mental health. We know this is true because so many people report improved mood and cognitive function when they start eating real food. So one of the best things you can do for your mind and mood is eating real food.
Quite time is also critical. I don’t have a radio in my vehicle and some of my best ideas have come to me while driving long distances. How many times have you had a good idea in the shower. The morning shower is quite time to think. You should try to make more moments like this everyday.
Take your least favorite TV show and skip it, this could easily free up an hour a day to do something else which is far better for your mind.
Sleep is another critical part of thinking as sleep allows the brain to rest and restore itself. So make sure you are getting as much sleep as you need. You will find that eating real food gives you more energy so you will need less sleep.
The best thing you can do is find 20 minutes everyday to do something that lets you focus your mind. Prayer, meditation or even a walk around the block are all things that allow the mind to focus.
Meditation is very easy to practice, but very difficult to master. Simply find a quite spot where you can sit alone. Close your eyes and try to focus on just one thing. A sound, an image, a word, it really doesn’t matter. You will find this easy at first, but you will also find that your mind starts to wonder. This is normal, simply go back to your focus as soon as you can. You will find that over time, your ability to remain on your focal point will improve and the wandering will subside. After a few weeks of daily practice you should notice a significant difference in your thinking.
Please let me know what you think about this.

So we’ve all had those nights when the baby wakes us up every hour all night, or the neighbors are having a party until the wee hours of the
Is it Time to get up yet?
morning or there is so much stress at work and we clock watch until it is time to get up. And we somehow manage to get through the next day. So how much sleep do we really need? We can function on a few hours per night for several days, maybe even on an extended basis. Or we can plow through a day after getting only a couple of hours of sleep. But, the real question is not “how little sleep can we get away with?” But “how much sleep do we need to be healthy and to live well?” While many sources say that answer varies from person to person, there is a general consensus that adults need 7-9 hours per night on a regular basis. Younger people need more sleep than adults with infants needing up to 18 hours of sleep per day! The National Sleep Foundation has a great chart showing the differing sleep needs for each age group.
When I was recovering from the birth of my fourth child, I was exceptionally careful about every bite that I put into my mouth. It startled me when a friend said that it is just as important to get enough sleep, as it is to eat well. Of course I’d been sleeping! I know how important it is to get sleep. Especially when my body is healing! But what she had touched on was how easy it was for me to tempt myself out of enough sleep. Enough sleep is the amount we need, when we’re healthy, to be at our best—productive, happy and engaged with the world around us. This is the amount of sleep it takes for each individual to learn well, have energy throughout the day, produce the hormones necessary for proper weight regulation and maintain a host of other bodily functions. And, of course, that amount of sleep time changes if we have need of healing or if we’ve become sleep deprived and need to catch-up on sleep.
I realized how easily I had justified not getting enough sleep; I had only prioritized proper nutrition. Routine sleep deprivation can lead to serious immediate and long-term consequences. Accidents are one of the main immediate consequences of sleep deprivation. Obesity, depression and diabetes are some of the potential long-term consequences of improper sleep.
The steps to ensure that we will get the 7-9 hours of sleep that we need are fairly simple and straightforward although, it might require habit changes for some. But, once employed, and once you are getting a sufficient amount of sleep, all other areas of life will improve as well. Here is a list of tips to increase the probability of regular, sufficient sleep. (taken from The National Sleep Foundation’s website):
Well, this is one way to get enough sleep
Establish consistent sleep and wake schedules, even on weekends
Create a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as soaking in a hot bath or listening to soothing music – begin an hour or more before the time you expect to fall asleep
Create a sleep-conducive environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool
Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows
Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex (keep “sleep stealers” out of the bedroom – avoid watching TV, using a computer or reading in bed)
Finish eating at least 2-3 hours before your regular bedtime
Exercise regularly during the day or at least a few hours before bedtime
Avoid caffeine and alcohol products close to bedtime and give up smoking
The great news is, even if you are sleep deprived right now, you can prioritize sleep, learn the techniques that lead to a calm, peaceful and full night’s sleep and get enough sleep to lead a full, vigorous, healthy and great life! Tonight is the perfect time to begin to sleep well to live well.

“They came in the dark, shining bright flashlights while my family was asleep, keeping me from milking my cows, from my family, from breakfast with my family and from our morning devotions, and alarming my children enough so that the first question they asked my wife was, ‘Is Daddy going to jail?’”
That’s how Amish farmer Dan Allgyer described an early morning visit last week from two FDA agents, two U.S. Marshals, and a Pennsylvania state trooper. Apparently, investigating a single farmer for possibly trafficking raw milk across state lines requires a show of force.
Full of delicious, rich, home-cooked meals congruent with the Liberation Diet, the healthy eating program that helps you maintain great health and normal weight!
This DVD features Maureen Diaz, Nutritionist and mother of 9 who lives on a farm in the heart of rural Pennsylvania, and Chef Rachel Marie, the head chef with Liberation Wellness.
“B is for a quick-slimming Breakfast.” Dr. Oz recommends always revving up your metabolism with breakfast. Aim to get up to half of your total daily calories in the morning. This advice is given based on a recent study that found that this simple trick shifts body chemistry, allowing dieters to get the big initial results of a low-carb plan sans the carb deprivation. That’s a study I’d like to see. What are the chances that it was paid for by a company who makes breakfast foods? Among the delicious temptations, dieters can choose from fat-free yogurt, scrambled eggs, or Chex Multi-Bran. These main entrees are supported by whole-grain English muffins and unlimited fruit. The only thing to like here is that he refrains from calling for egg whites only.
Pastured eggs are highly recommended on The Liberation Diet; eggs with bacon, sausage, ham, fish, scrapple, or raw milk. For frying it’s best to use butter or coconut oil. Now that’s not a recommendation, you’ll find in any magazines catering to busy Mom’s, looking to take care of their families.
“E is for Eliminating the most fattening food of all.” Sugar and high fructose corn syrup spike your blood sugar and are loaded with empty calories. Dr. Oz says that whole fruit is the most slimming way to soothe a sweet tooth.
While The Liberation Diet concurs with Dr. Oz re sugar and high fructose corn syrup, it is key to remember that anything your mouth perceives as sweet is being turned into sugar by the body. Kevin Brown and his co-author Annette Presley recommend eating fruit even less frequently than vegetables, and then only when in season and with real cream or some other healthy fat to increase absorption of antioxidants.
“A is for flab-blasting antioxidants.” Vegetables and brightly colored fruit continue to be linked to fat -burning and hunger control. Dr. Oz says that they are extremely good for you and will provide plenty of energy.
Kevin Brown maintains that vegetables are certainly healthy, but not the foundation of health. A good rule of thumb is to eat them in smaller proportion to fat and protein. Always eat vegetables with saturated fat, to increase the absorption of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. So remember to add butter or a lovely cream sauce to get the most out of your vegetables.
“C is for a Chocolatey weight-loss surprise.” Just when you thought he was done beating the antioxidant drum, Dr. Oz informs that dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants, “especially a certain type linked to reduced hunger.” I’d tell you which one, but readers are left to guess.
On The Liberation Diet, chocolate isn’t verboten, it simply isn’t touted as an antioxidant, hunger curbing, mood elevating, must have. Eat well 80% of the time and enjoy an exceptional chocolate desert occasionally!
“H is for fat-flushing H20. Dr. Oz thinks people are so stupid that they routinely confuse thirst and hunger. His wisdom here is to drink water whenever you’re hungry and that way you’ll always feel full and thus end up eating less. I’m not really sure how much water Americans now consume, but I’ve looked around and it doesn’t appear to be curing anyone’s hunger. Finally, when you tire of water, grab some green tea. You’ll never guess why. Yes, that’s right! Green tea is loaded with antioxidants!
The Liberation Diet’s take on water is most refreshing because it’s something that is rarely talked about. There is an epidemic of heart burn and acid reflux out there. What really happens when dieters are convinced to drink water before eating in order to curb their appetites? Hydrochloric acid is secreted into the stomach when we eat so that food can be digested. Drinking water dilutes this acid, thus impairing digestion and promoting digestive ailments. While drinking excessive amounts of water will not flush toxins from the body, as is commonly thought, it most certainly will flush vital minerals from the body. In short, drink when you are thirsty, but try to refrain from drinking at least an hour before eating. In terms of quenching thirst water doesn’t even come close to Kombucha, which also happens to be a live fermented drink. Real milk and broth are also excellent options.
Dr. Oz’s BEACH diet only works because it’s based on severe calorie restriction. Menus do not exceed 1,200 calories. I can only imagine the binging that takes place when coming off of this diet. Dr. Oz gives us nothing new here. It’s the same old vegetable pushing low-fat nonsense that got us into trouble in the first place.
The Liberation Diet extolls fat as the most important nutrient in the diet! Half of your fat intake should be from saturated fats found in animal foods, coconut, and palm oils. Not only is this a delicious way to get key nutrients, but it is also the best option for feeling full and satisfied when you eat. This is why people on The Liberation Diet typically eat only twice a day. They are sated when they eat and so they eat less and loose weight. There are many other important differences between this diet and the ones that are being peddled to women. Some of those have been highlighted in this post, but the best way to smash out of food prison is to buy the book and liberate yourself.

Americas Best and Brightest are Eating Cheap Food!
Two forward thinking teachers at the Annapolis Naval Academy recently hosted a screening of the movie FRESH.
This movie contrasts the confinement farm production against small organic farmers who are using common sense instead of putting the almighty dollar first.
In the film, there is a scene where the chickens in the commercial production system are all being fed like they are in prison.
This picture really hit home with the Midshipmen as they realized it looked incredibly similar to how they themselves were being fed!
Liz Reitzig, Liberation Wellness and NICFA representative and I both spoke with the group after the screening and were amazed at how interested they were in the real food message, and were anxious to help!
The Soldiers were none too happy when we explained how soy was a junk food, and how real food like butter is much more valuable. They also mentioned that the terrorists that they battle eat better than them!
They also brought up the point that making real milk illegal is UNCONSTITUTIONAL! Well, we agree whole heartedly! Seems like no-one cares about the constitution any more.
We have better weapons than our terrorist enemies, but the armed services definitely don’t use common sense when it comes to food.
Napoleon wrote “ an Army Marches on its Stomach!”
It is distressful to see our brave young people defending our nation and drinking soy milk!
I like real food; it is what I want my family to eat, every day. And it is my mission to educate anyone who will listen as to the benefits of eating real food, for our health and our enjoyment (real food just tastes better!). But another reason to eat real food is that it comes from real farms; something which our modern, processed “food” does not. By eating real food we are supporting our friends, the small family farmers of our community. Doing otherwise only supports Fake Food corporations, as well as the medical and pharmaceutical industries!
But our right to purchase real food from real farms is in real peril. (Yes, I know; the word “real” is becoming rather redundant. Bear with me please.) With our governments on both the federal and state levels conducting farm raids, imposing huge fines for non-compliance, threatening imprisonment to those who won’t be intimidated, and enacting laws which threaten the very existence of small family farms, we must get real about the anti-real food/small family farm bias which exists and threatens our access to real food, and real health!
Several of the Diaz children, spending a day on The Hill lobbying their lawmakers!
I know what you’re thinking: somebody else will do it. Not me, I’m too busy. Let those zealous activist-types do it for me. I’ve got soccer, work, school, church, clubs, dishes, laundry, and meals to prepare (I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt on that one!). How am I to have the time to write letters or make a phone call?
It is this apathy and lack of participation in our democracy (?) that has brought us to our current state, a state of government control and denial of basic rights! Are you a guilty party in this takeover?
Now folks, I understand busy; I have a bunch of kids at home, all of whom are home schooled. My days are filled with laundry and dishes and reading lessons and wiping tears and math papers and… Real food! I prepare all our family’s food from scratch. I travel miles and miles to obtain this food, to real farms, not those huge factories that some call “farms”. But I also find the time to write the occasional letter, make a phone call now and then, and even visit with our lawmakers, and potential lawmakers. Why do I do it? Because it must be done! If I don’t do it, who will?
Thankfully there are a few others like me who get it, and do it! People like Liz Reitig, Jonas & Judy Stolzfus, Kevin Brown, Jayne Lubke, Judy Mudrak, Laura Tarbott, Kimberly Hartke, Debbie Stockton, Judith McGreary, Terri Mazzei, Cathy Raymond, Hannah Smith, Sally Fallon Morell, Rhoda & Emmanuel Byler, and many others. People who have families, responsibilities, and generally lots of other things to do. But they do it! They are really busy, but they do these things because they understand the vital role they play in our government, and the importance of protecting our real food supply!
So how about you? Can you carve just a few moments out of your day to write your senators and congressmen? Make a phone call? Meet with your local lawmakers at their offices or invite them into your home for time with like-minded friends?
I guarantee you, if more of us don’t do this, there will be no more access to real food, and thus real health! So get real, and get busy! You can make a difference, if only you try!

Oprah Winfrey Deal With Procter & Gamble May Rock Old Advertising Model
Deal Skips “Upfront” Season, Connects P&G Directly With Celebrity
Column By LARRY D. WOODARD
Graham Stanley Advertising CEO and President
The Oprah Winfrey Network, the 50/50 joint venture between Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Inc. and Discovery Communications, announced last week it had secured a significant commitment from Procter & Gamble, the world’s largest advertiser.
P&G, the manufacturer of dozens of household name brands like Tide, Crest, Tampax and Pampers, committed to a deal reportedly worth more than $100 million over three years. The agreement, which includes the purchase of time and integration into programming, is unprecedented in that Winfrey’s network (OWN for short) will not be on the air until January 2011, does not yet have a full programming lineup and has no audience and therefore no basis for ratings, reach or demographics.
Oprah and P&G: A Game-Changing Partnership
Yet this partnership between Proctor and OWN has the potential to change further the way the advertising agency media business operates.
