RAW . . . ROASTED . . . SPROUTED?

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on February 26, 2010

WHY SPROUT?
That’s a good question.

I was certainly clueless.

First we got to  organic . . . then we got to raw . . . now you’re telling me we need to eat sprouted nuts?

Tell me why please.  There certainly is a price difference.  Although, with a little work, you can sprout your own nuts
(and other things) yourself.  As a mom, I keep a bag of raw sprouted almonds in my car at all times along with some
fruit to make sure none of the kids strave for too long.  So know that raw AND sprouted tastes good.
So still the question WHY?

While it’s important to me to make sure my family eats well, I couldn’t remember why we went to sprouted.
After doing a little research, I found a great article at www.JigsawHealth.com that explains all the phases of a nuts life
shares

ROASTED . . . RAW . . . SPROUTED?

Nuts come from around the world in a variety of shapes and sizes. Most nuts come from the seeds or dried fruits of trees
and have an outer shell that both protects the nut and keeps the healthy fats inside the nut from spoiling.

After being picked, most nuts are dried—not only to improve flavor and add more crunch to the texture, but to preserve them.
These are what we know as raw nuts.

From there, the marketing of nuts begins: shelled or unshelled, salted or unsalted, roasted, sprouted, candied, spiced,
packaged, or bulk. But let’s talk about how nuts get processed—and what happens to their nutritional content in the process.

RAW (or unroasted) NUTS. Contrary to popular belief, raw nuts are not simply plucked from trees and sold on a grocery store
shelf. As mentioned previously, most nuts are dried to preserve them and improve their flavors and textures. These are raw nuts. While raw nuts are fairly nutritious and have no added fat, they’re often bland and tasteless.

Raw nuts also contain enzyme inhibitors which help to protect the seed and keep it from germinating too early and dying off.
This also helps to keep the species going.

But these enzyme inhibitors, when introduced into the body, actually neutralize the enzymes your body uses to control
inflammation and aid in digestion. In fact, eating nuts with these enzyme inhibitors can cause the pancreas to swell.

There are only two ways to destroy these enzyme inhibitors: 1) roasting, which also destroys the enzymes, and 2) sprouting,
which keeps the beneficial enzymes intact.

ROASTED NUTS. While roasted nuts have a lot more flavor than raw nuts, there are some definite disadvantages to them:
1) added oils, 2) added ingredients, 3) more difficult to digest, and 4) less nutritional value.

Nuts can be either dry roasted or roasted in oil. As you probably already know, dry-roasted nuts contain less fat than
nuts roasted in oil. In fact, roasting nuts in oil is a lot like deep frying—nuts are dumped into highly saturated palm
kernel or coconut oils, adding about a gram of fat and 10 calories per ounce to nuts with an already high fat and calorie
content.

Then roasted nuts are often heavily salted and almost always have other ingredients added to them such as sugar,
corn syrup, MSG, preservatives, and other additives.

In addition, many people have trouble digesting nuts because of the high fat content. Adding more fats during roasting makes
them even more difficult to digest.

Finally, roasting destroys much of the nutritional content of nuts. Vitamin B, particularly vitamin B1 (thiamine), which
helps produce energy and keep the heart healthy, is most often killed off in roasting.

And, as mentioned previously, roasting not only destroys the enzyme inhibitors, it destroys the enzymes needed by the body
to help with digestion.

So roasted nuts may have more flavor than raw nuts—but at a price: your health.

SPROUTED NUTS. Sprouted nuts neatly solve the nutrition problem of roasted nuts and the tastelessness of raw nuts.
And, the process is not new. It dates back thousands of years and is still practiced today in non-meat-eating cultures
where nuts are a staple food.

This traditional process, called sprouting.  It does not begin with drying as in the case of raw or roasted nuts.
Instead, freshly picked nuts are soaked for 24 hours in water and a pinch of sea salt, causing the nuts to begin germinating.

The nuts are then removed from the solution and slowly dried at a very low temperature with low humidity. This slow drying
process destroys the enzyme inhibitors, releasing the full nutritional content of the nut and allowing the body’s natural
enzymes to more easily digest the nuts.

While much more time-consuming, sprouting makes nuts more digestible, gives them much greater nutritional value, makes
them crunchier, and best of all, releases an unmistakably fresher flavor.

****

As a footnote from me, Debbie, you can purchase either raw or raw, sprouted nuts.  OR, you can purchase raw nuts and sprout
your own (see the instructions below).  It is relatively simple and the instructions below are only from one website.
I have a friend that simply soaks her almonds overnight and then roasts thems for about an hour on a very low temperature.
Last but not least, if you have not incorporated raw, sprouted nuts into your diet, you might want to take a second look:

Almonds
Brazil Nuts
Cashews
Hazelnuts
Peanuts
Pecans
Pistachios
Pumpkin Seeds
Walnuts

Nuts are good sources of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, good fats, and protein.

Kim Harris from www.TheNourishingGourmet.com shares that soaking grains is vital to proper health — in fact,  she
says ‘grains that are not soaked equal poor digestive worth and blocked vitamins and minerals.’  She goes on to
say ‘Soaked grains equal better digestive worth and make vitamins and minerals available to absorb.’  Visit
www.TheNourishingGourmet.com for detailed instruction in soaking various grains and extensive recipes.  This is
definitely a ‘thumbs up’ website!

***
Sprouting Instructions (from www.SproutPeople.com)
Yields approximately 1 Cup (1/2 lb.) of Sprouts

Prep 2/3 Cup of seed (nuts) then transfer (if necessary) into a bowl or into your Sprouter.
Add 2-3 times as much cool (60-70 degree) water.
Mix seeds up to assure even water contact for all.
Allow seeds to Soak for 4-12 hours.
Empty the seeds into your sprouter if necessary.  Drain off the soak water.

Rinse thoroughly with cool (60-70°) water and Drain thoroughly.

Set anywhere out of direct sunlight and at room temperature (70° is optimal) between Rinses.

Rinse and Drain again in 8-12 hours. And, perhaps one more…Rinse and Drain in 8-12 hours.
Stop here unless you are doing a science experiment or growing an almond tree seedling.

Note: Almond sprouts are not intended to germinate fully, their germ is meant to bulge but not put out a root.
That is why they are called Soaks.

Also: You can skip that last Rinse and Drain without altering your crop at all!

As always, we suggest that you taste your crop at EVERY RINSE – including the very first – just after the Soak period.
The soaked seeds are already alive and are now super-nutritious – and – they now have no enzyme inhibitors
(a very good thing indeed) so they’ll digest themselves and nourish you.

Accomplishment List Vs. To Do List

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on February 19, 2010

What will you accomplish — wouldn’t it be more fun to have an Accomplishment list than a  To Do List?
We all have the same amount of time each day — it’s how we spend it that makes the difference in our results.

86,400

Seconds that is — that’s how many we all get to spend each day.

How do you spend each of your days?

Do you put first things first?

Are you FIRED UP?

Do your activities move your towards where your want to go OR are they just ‘busy’ work.  Sometimes, it’s better
to say NO or delegate.

Is your life full of ‘juicy’ relationships?  You have to make time!

Do you bless others each day?

Do you go to bed each night full of gratitude?
At the end of the day (like the end of the month), there’s an accounting of sorts.  Where did the day go?
What is on that accomplishment list of yours (aka a to do list that is crossed off).

It’s easy to get side-tracked–we all do it–our goal is for you to have more accomplishments an more fun!

***

My friend Phil Humbert shares some of his observations below about successful people and how they ‘Thrive in a Chaotic World’
and are able to ‘Accomplish More’

They seem comfortable, challenged, even exhilarated by chaos, and yet they maintain balance and tranquility in their lives.
It’s a amazing set of skills!

The most effective people seem to thrive in a world of chaos and constant change. They know that results are based on
intelligent action and focused effort, while they develop superb skills to “play and win” in a chaotic, often contradictory world.

They are unusually comfortable with ambiguity.

They know they will never have enough information. They know the rules are often out of date before they are even published,
and yet they thrive.

In the midst of chaos, they go quietly about their business.  When others are losing control, they remain calm. When others panic,
they have a cup of tea and contemplate their next strategic move.  They often move quickly, but always with a sense of confidence,
power and grace. How can this be?
Several things are necessary to thrive in the midst of chaos:

1. Exceptional boundaries.
Winners close their doors and ignore disruptions.   They turn off the phone and claim their space.
They know where they are going and tolerate few distractions.

2.  Exceptional vision.
Winners know their priorities and their desired outcomes.   They know what they want and they can see, taste, smell
and almost touch their results in advance. They have goals  and tasks rather than mere hopes or wishes.

3.  Exceptional self-direction.
Winners are in charge of their lives and chaos around them is just that — other people’s chaos swirling around them,
while they maintain an inner calm. They are not lost or confused about their values, their priorities, their
direction or their most important daily tasks.

4.  Exceptional optimism.
They see chaos as opportunity.  Chaos “stirs the pot” and opens doors. Rather than annoying or frustrating them,
they love it! On a wild and windy day, a rainbow may appear at any moment and they are eager to welcome it.

5.  Exceptional Reserves.
They take care of themselves. They eat well, rest often, save and invest wisely and when opportunity knocks, they
are waiting to answer the door. They operate from strength and stability, while a chaotic world wreaks havoc on the competition.

6.  Exceptional response-ability.
Rather than reacting from stress, anger, fear or anxiety, they see a magnificent, ever-changing world and respond
quickly to once-in-a- lifetime opportunities.   “Desperate” people react; winners respond.

John Lennon observed that

“life is what happens while you were making other plans.”

Do you think life is going to wait until you’re ready?  I’ve found that the stars rarely line up for perfect timing.

Successful people from all walks of life learn to adapt and thrive on the constant and never ending chaos.  They seize the
opportunities at hand.

This applies to moms, employees, entrepreneurs, students — yes anyone reading who wants to make their mark.  Don’t think you
have to be a CEO to have an ‘ACCOMPLISHMENT LIST.’

SUGAR . . . It’s More Addictive Than Cocaine!

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on February 12, 2010

Sugar - Sugar - Sugar

Do you have the ‘sugar gene’?  I do . . . my best friend, Teresa does, and even though as a family,
we embrace above average eating habits, both of my children have ‘the sugar gene.’

Recently, I read an article by clinical nutritionist Nancy Appleton, PhD, that sugar is more
addictive than cocaine, based on animal studies.
WHY?  Because sugar, like drugs and alcohol will elevate your mood!
It’s brief — remember, you’ll have a sugar crash.  Your mood is elevated because sugar briefly
elevates levels of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that produces positive feelings.

Excess sugar has been linked to obesity, cancer, diabetes, and dementia — I can personally add to that
WILD KIDS, lack of energy, and general malaise.

Reading Nancy’s article inspired me to do a little more research . . .
Here are some more startling statistics:

For the first time in human history there are more fat and obese people in the world than
hungry people.

There are more than 1 billion obese people in the world who are diagnosed as obese — 18 million
of them are under the age of 5.

We now, on the average consume more than our weight in sugar each year.  For most people that is more than 140 pounds — or more than 48 teaspoons a day.

How Much Sugar Are You Eating?

Now out of the 140 pounds — 74 pounds is ‘added’ sugar.  That means sugar that is added to various
foods or beverages we eat/drink during the processing or preparation as opposed to sugars that occur
naturally.

If you are trying to cut back on sugar, you need to become a label reader.  Labels list ingredients
in the order of quantity.  If sugar appears in the top 3, you can be sure it’s a lot — if it’s in
the top 5–you should be careful.

Now what is considered a sugar?  Here are just are just a few:

Sugar
Barley Malt
Galactose
Agave Nectar
Honey
Maple Syrup
Corn Sweetener
Dectrine
Rice Syrup
Glucose
Sucrose
Dextrose
High Fructose Corn Syrup

Those labels can be sneaky and there are more — but that’s a start.

According to CBS, sugar is added to more than 10,000 processed foods including peanut butter, bread,
yogurt, hot dogs, bacon, soup, cough drops, pickles, salami, soya milk, clamato juice, soya sauce,
english muffins, ketchup, baked beans and baby food.

http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/bigsugar/diet.html

One of the biggest culprits is soda — 12 – 15 teaspons in an average soda.  And 1 out of 2 teens
consumes at least one soda each day.

Yes, sugar can make things taste better — the more you eat– the more you want — it’s ADDICTIVE!

Why is the amount of sugar you consume so important?

The difference between wellness and sickness is the body’s ability to maintain homeostasis –
which means all systems are a go — all functions are interacting and working properly  within your
body!

Our bodies are designed to maintain a unique alkaline state.  Many foods — especially sugar — is
acidic.  When you have a highly acidic food, the body tries to make itself more alkaline.  It does this by
taking calcium and other minerals from the bones.

Further, if SEX is important to you, if you consume too much sugar, you might be killing your sex drive!
Yes, that’s right.  Too much sugar turns off the gene that controls sex hormones.  Read more:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/071109171610.htm

So, Mary Poppins did get it right . . . A spoonful of sugar (one spoonful) makes the medicine go down
(or sweetens the bowl).

We need to recognize how much sugar we are using, the source of the sugar, and be careful of the
added sugar that our families are ingesting.

Most of my posts are more about inspiration and personal development, and living a life you love — but
when I read this article, I knew it would be perfect to share with the Liberation Wellness Community.

Today’s Secret Edge for Exceptional Living Tip comes from Dr. John Maxwell with a little commentary

Dr. John Maxwell & Debbie Wysocki

thrown in from me.

KNOWING YOUR PURPOSE

Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life.  Each of us has a purpose for which we
were created.  Our responsibility — and our greatest joy — is to identify it.

Maxwell gives us some questions to assist your in finding your purpose:

1.  For what are you searching?  All of us have a strong desire buried in our hearts — something
that speaks to your deepest thoughts and feelings.  Something that FIRES US UP.

2.  Why were you created? What are your unique abilities?  What resources are available to you?
You must be objective. . . and this is no time to be humble.

3.  Do you believe in your potential?  If you don’t believe you have potential, you will never try to
reach it.

This is kind of like Henry Ford’s quote ”Think you can, think you can’t, either way you’re right.’

Here’s another quote that really makes me go hmmm

‘Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.’
   ~ President Theodore Roosevelt

4.  When do YOU start?  Do you have to ask?  NOW!

Rick Warren has written a best-seller called the Purpose Driven Life for further reading about exploring your purpose.

Rick Warren

***

Each of us has our own definition of success, but I like this one:

Growing to our potential!
We have nearly limitless potential, yet too few of us ever try to reach it.  If you don’t take the time
to think about what gifts you’ve been given and what you want create with your gifts, you could end up
bouncing around like a basketball being dribbled by me (FYI, I am completely uncoordinated with round objects
called balls).

One last quote . . .

‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’
   ~Winston Churchill

Have an amazing weekend!

Principle Centered Coaching Grows Leaders At Home and Work

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on January 29, 2010

One of the courses I’m taking on leadership has a module on coaching which I find, has a use in many areas of my life with the multiple hats I wear as a parent, boss, client, team builder , and leader.

This module is called ‘Principle-Centered’ Coaching which includes:

TRUST – to have faith, confidence and belief in another.  It is the basis of meaningful healthy relationships.

Trust & Respect Go Hand In Hand

Trust is the cornerstone for ABSOLUTELY  EVERYTHING.  This can mean trusting your kids to make the right decision or having trust that your employees or Team will step up and do what needs to be done.
As a footnote to this, sometimes it’s hard for us to trust others because we’re not sure they can do it the way we do it.  In listening to a lecture on effective time management, it’s smart to delegate if the task can be done at least as ’70% as good as you can do it.’
RESPECT – is treating another human being with dignity and kindness.  In coaching it means we honor who they are, what they have accomplished, and who they can become.

Respect those for those within your team means being willing to consider and value the ideas and skills they bring to your team and guiding them without interfering in their process.  You recognize each member is competent and communicate that they are valuable — help them build self-esteem, be an encourager, help them to become a confident leader.
SERVICE – is the driving force behind all we do.  In our families, communities, and business.  Service to others represents a commitment to assist those who are part of your team (kids or business) in developing their talents and always put their best interests first.

Serving At Home and in the Community is Important

INTEGRITY – is when our thoughts, words, and actions are in alignment.  We are honest, do what we say we will do, and keep our commitments.  It means being truthful at all times and striving to do what’s right — rather than what’s easy.
AUTHENTICITY -  is when we are natural and genuine with no need to appear more successful than we are or to have all the answers they are looking for.

Authenticity means being open and honest, even about our own human frailties.  You rely on your strengths and seek growth and assistance.
Let me share with you an example of how to apply these principles as it applies to children.   See if you can identify which principles we are embracing.
WITHOUT PRINCIPLE-CENTERED COACHING:

Amanda, way to go selling 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

WITH PRINCIPLE-CENTERED COACHING:

Amanda, that was courageous stepping out in faith and giving it everything it needed to reach your goal
to sell 1,000 boxes of cookies.  I’m proud of you.  I can’t wait to see you swim with the dolphins.

Girl Scout Cookies

One last point in this area for today . . .

Your child, employee, or team member has the answers . . .

As leaders, we have the natural desire to nurture, solve, and yes, even rescue.  But what does this accomplish?

Does this help the person grow in the area of leadership?  I know my tendency is to ‘go into solution mode.’

A better choice to develop leadership in others is to ask open ended questions that cannot be answered with a yes or no, but which require the person to look deeper inside themselves.

Usually these questions begin with WHAT or HOW not WHY.

For example:

What steps will you take to move forward on that project?

How committed are you to that action plan?

What do you think you would do differently?

These are questions WE CAN ASK OURSELVES!

I’d like to give credit to the Direct Selling Women’s Alliance — and tremendous organization dedication and education they give to
the networkmarketing and directing selling industry — for women — but as you can see so much of what  they teach  assists us in becoming better individuals who JUST DO LIFE BETTER.

For more information, you can visit their website at http://snipurl.com/dswa-info

To learn specifically about their coaching programs which frankly I believe can help us be better communicators and teachers, check out:

http://snipurl.com/dswa-coaching  The whole idea is behind  Principle Centered Coaching is to learn how to ask better questions — leading to a better outcome for all parties.

Remember, How you do anything, is how everything!

What’s Your WHY?

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on January 22, 2010

Yes, We Want More For Our Family!

It’s fabulous Friday, and today I wanted to share something from my friend, Phil Humbert.  He  shared this message earlier in the week:

Successful people are pro-active. They take ACTION before they have to. They act long before the “last minute” because they are “ahead of the curve.”  They save and invest for the future, rather than spending in the moment. They plan ahead.  As you set goals for 2010, are you also dreaming, planning, scheming and arranging for 2015, 2020, and beyond?

My question for you is . . .

When you set your goals for this year for family, health, business/career, spiritual, relationships, financial, and personal did you pause to consider anything beyond — like 2015, or 2020?

When I am coaching members of my team, we talk about looking at each specific area and really asking the BIG question, what would YOU be doing if money were not an issue — how would you spend your time – what would your day, week, month look like in these areas — who would you be spending time with, what would you be eating, how do you look, how do you dress, what kind of car do you drive, where do you live, what does your home look like, what is your family  doing, where are you traveling, what are your spending and saving habits, how much are you able to donate (and to what causes), where do you volunteer?

When you have a description for each each area, then write a WHY statement combining them all together in the present tense.

Then, the magic begins when you put pictures to your written WHY . . . remember  ‘a picture is worth a 1,000 words.’  If you want a new Porche, go take a picture of you with the Porche in the exact color your want.  If you want a certain body, cut out the body from a magazine and put your head on top.  If you want a certain vacation, put that body in the vacation picture.  If you want a baby and haven’t had one, put a picture of a baby on your Dream board.  Once you have your full size dream board, you can shrink it down and several ‘mini’ boards and keep your WHY and goals firmly in front of you strategically located in the bathroom, the kitchen, your office, your day planner, and the dashboard of your car.

When you put pen to paper, then add the magic of photos, statistics show the likelihood of succeeding is substantially greater.

Here are some closing thoughts for you:

*  MAN WAS DESIGNED FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT

*  The difference between winning and being 2nd is very small.

*  YOU LEARN FROM SUCCESSFUL FAILURES.

*  To build a winning attitude, you need to  take care of your health . . . and Liberation Wellness is the best Partner!

Happy Day 13 of 2010!

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on January 13, 2010

Yes, it’s true 13 days have passed.

Did you make some resolutions?   Have you abandoned some resolutions?

One of the best things about the New Year is the clean slate or
the ‘do over’ we all have — it’s something most of us look forward to.

The New Year brings HOPE to create a better tomorrow.

So here’s the BIG Question.  After almost two weeks,  Have you given up?  Will you continue to step out in FAITH OR will you be bound by FEAR?  This year — this decade will bring many adventures — adventures that will indeed test our Faith, and may even cause us to doubt for a moment.

Have you thought about tackling your #1 FEAR this year . . . it might just turn out to be your biggest blessing (whether it’s health, relationship, or wealth related).  It might even be easier than trying to tackle 10 resolutions!

Just think about it . . . In the meantime . . .

***

My friend Max Steingart shared this message with me quite some time ago, and I think it’s a perfect message for a New Year:
SUCCESS IS WAITING FOR YOU!

To achieve your goal in life, you need to project your end result.

Carve out a niche for yourself in your imagined future.

Begin immediately to think of and feel yourself as successful.

Focus on your future, not your past.
Prepare for your future, don’t live in the past.

Relish your good memories and use any bad ones as lessons in life.

Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can.

The cards you’re dealt in life are less important than the way you play them.

Every day you’re going to face a new deck and new cards.

Think of the elation, the satisfaction, the joy you’ll feel, when you’ve achieved your objective.

Carry these ecstatic feelings with you every dayand they will bring your desired goals into view.

Your future is a grand adventure.

****
When we start a New Year, many times we are looking for a ‘New Adventure.’

2010 will bring many surprises for each of us. Liberation Wellness is here to get you on track to physical wellness.  Kevin and his team will be sure to empower you to reach your New Year’s wellness goals in a simple, logical way.

Are You Effective OR Are Your Efficient?

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on December 31, 2009

OK . . .Here’s the BIG question that is meant to empower you to make 2010 your best year
ever.

When this crossed my inbox from Mike at Perfect Presentation Coaching, I knew it would
benefit anyone who chose to read it:
****

Are you efficient?

Are you effective?

Are you both?

Is one of these things more important than the other?

I think it probably depends on what you are doing.

If you need to get a lot of things done it is probably more important to be efficient.

If you have one or just a few very important things to get done, effectiveness is probably
more important.

Take time and examine your tasks and decide which you need to be, do you need to be
efficient or do you need to be effective?

Then structure your work or your day to meet your “eff” goal.

A caveat here, it is possible to be efficient at the wrong things.  So be careful.

A final point.  It is sometimes okay to do things that are not efficient or effective.

Here’s an example:  It is not very efficient to let your kids help you paint the living room.
It’s probably also not very effective to let them help… make sure they actually put the paint on the
walls and not on each other!

I would argue, however, that letting them help will pay “eff” dividends down the road.

*****

Now, do you want to be efficient?  Do you want to be effective?  Do you want to be both?

The ‘Eff’ factor has implication in all areas of our life . . . our career or business, our home and family, nutrition and diet (how we shop and prepare our food), weight loss, our fitness and exercise programs, our relationships, our financial and savings goals (have you thought about starting a part-time business to supplement your income?).  2010 is YOUR YEAR!

You can be Effeactive OR Efficient and even both.

Decide which tasks need what and go do it!

Christmas Wishes

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on December 22, 2009

Our Christmas Gift

Here are some of my wishes for you this Christmas Season:

  •  May your shoes be comfortable and the lines be short
  •  May you enjoy the time you spend with both family and friends
  •  May you enjoy the songs of the Season
  •  If  it’s cold where you’re at, enjoy that hot cocoa (it’s 90 degrees down here)
  •  Bake something yummy
  •  Do an anonymous act of kindness for someone (pay a toll, bring in the trash cans, shovel the snow, pay for a cup of coffee)
  •  Tell someone you love them
  •  Remember why we celebrate Christmas — it’s a very important birthday.
  •  No matter where you are in these crazy economic times, there is probably something you can find to be grateful for.  Keep that thought front and  center.
  •  Forgive someone
  •  Be at peace.

Enjoy this time of the year with family and friends!

The Power of Pink & Blue

Posted by Debbie Wysocki on December 15, 2009

The message for today is about ’The Power of Pink & The Power of Blue’

Ladies, how many times do you walk away from an interaction with a male (significant other) or business associate and are shaking your head or want to scream?

And Men, how many of you think women are too sensitive and ‘always want to talk’?

 Think about this . . .

Women filter everything through pink hearing aides, rose colored glasses, a pink computer, and talk through a pink megaphone.

 Guys . . .

Do you think we have different languages?

 Here’s a prime example

I say to my husband ’I need to lose 10 lbs.’

He goes to the library and sees a book that is titled HEALTHY DIET MENUS

He is thinking he is supporting my goal of being healthy — and I see red because he brings me home a diet book (even though I do want to lose 10 lbs — I don’t want him to think I need to).

And, I see a great book about communicating and strengthening relationships.  I buy it.  I mention it to my husband.  He hears ‘I’m in the dog house’ and ‘it cost me $20.’

There’s plenty examples that relate to work relationships too.

The reason I’m sharing this is because the Holidays can be stressful, and sometimes we think we’re saying one thing, but the person we’re speaking to is hearing something entirely different.

Ladies, we need to speak BLUE.  Men, you need to speak PINK.  And, when we start to get peeved, we need to think about WHY.

Most people don’t intentionally go out of their way to be jerks.

So where did I get this from — No, I didn’t pick up my PhD on the internet over the weekend after thowing the Christmas Party.

We had a visiting Pastor at Church — Emerson Eggerichs

 Check out his book:

Love and Respect (The Love She Most Desires/ The Respect He Desperately Needs) won 2 awards sin 2005.

And, while you may be raising your eyebrows about ‘love’ in workplace relationships, I’m talkinig about treating people kindly — women need NICE and need to be heard.  And YES, Respect is KEY for a man.  A man will lay down and die for honor.

 So why the PLUG?

Ask yourself when was the last time you felt robbed of power?

In closing 2009, it’s important to take stock not only of our WINS, but of what we can do better in 2010 — and NOW is the time to set the groundwork.  I believe this book can benefit ALL relationships, work, parent-child, and of course, marriage.

Check out your local library and grab a copy of LOVE & RESPECT.  You’ll never look at the colors Pink and Blue quite the same ever again!
