Conventional medical people are indirectly, subliminally and sometimes overtly trained by the pharmaceutical industry. That's what funds the seminars, the grants for medical professors and foots the bills for new wings of hospitals, who finances the studies, who hands out the free samples in hospitals and medical offices, who delivers lunches and free “seminars” on the importance of using their products, who pays the way to medical conventions in vacation locals, etc., etc. If a professor at a nursing school or medical school suggested that their students not use pharmaceuticals, his/her beneficiary would be disappointed to say the least and in no time, he/she’d be ousted.
Joette, thank you! Why are allopathic medical people (nurses at least) STILL being trained to "treat fevers" to make the child "comfortable" via Motrin or Tylenol? It's so frustrating when the reality about fevers is so commonsensical!

This really hits home for my family. While I definitely don't want my child to be uncomfortable, I'd rather not "throw chemicals" (i.e Tylenol) at her for her liver and other organs to have to process while her little body is already taxed fighting something - that just doesn't make sense. It truly does seem that a fever is healing. Holding my child and using the supportive, nurturing methods listed above when she isn't feeling well heals better than anything else!!

Hello Malie! Yes, I do have some insight to offer. But first, congratulations on your new endeavor! How exciting! We raise chickens in portable pens, some in electro-netting, and a few are just loose around the homestead. They all require input from us or they would certainly not survive! We offer a poultry feed made up of organic mixed grains (corn, oats), field peas, fish meal, and whole minerals. They all do well on this, but still get a significant portion of their diet from the bugs & grasses which they consume, as well as the generous kitchen scraps which we send out to them.
I do suggest having a rooster for protection of the hens from predators, and fertile eggs (which are in my opinion, the most nutritious).
Also, if you are interested, I own an email list for farmers of all varieties. We have many people on the list asking and answering questions pertaining to the raising of chickens and other live stock, as well as gardening and managing the homestead or farmstead. If you are interested, please visit WAPFarmers on YahooGroups, or let me know and I will send you a private invitation.
Enjoy!
